Ella Hunt Is Living Her Dream With Two Major Projects at Once

British actress and singer-songwriter Ella Hunt is having one of the best weeks of her life. Her starring role in Mindy Kaling’s new Disney+ comedy ‘Not Suitable for Work’ just dropped, and so did her debut album *Blindspot*—marking what she’s calling her “dream week” and a turning point in her career.

The 28-year-old, who rose to fame through shows like ‘Dickinson’, ‘Anna and the Apocalypse’, and ‘Saturday Night’, has always juggled acting and music. But landing both projects simultaneously feels like the perfect moment to fully embrace both sides of her creativity.

Hunt admits the timing is almost surreal. Releasing an album she’s dreamed about since childhood while introducing audiences to a brand-new character has been overwhelming—but in the best way possible. Throughout her twenties, she’s been balancing those childhood ambitions with adult reality, a theme that surprisingly mirrors the story she’s telling on screen in ‘Not Suitable for Work’.

In Kaling’s workplace comedy, Hunt takes on the role of AJ, an investment banking analyst juggling friendships, romance, and career pressure in New York City. It’s a departure from her quieter previous roles—AJ is energetic, quirky, and fiercely driven.

Hunt had immediate faith in the project. “I trusted Mindy’s creative vision before I even read every script,” she explained. She praised Kaling’s writing for its blend of humor and emotional depth, something she clearly admires.

The show also fulfills another lifelong dream: appearing in a New York-set romantic comedy in the vein of ‘When Harry Met Sally’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail’. Hunt moved to the city in her early twenties while filming ‘Dickinson’ and says the series captures that same sense of excitement and possibility she experienced then.

While acting allows her to step into different characters, ‘Blindspot’ is Hunt’s most personal project yet. She’s been writing since childhood, but this album finally felt complete—partly because much of it was written while processing the grief of losing her half-sister.

Working with producer Jimmy Hogarth, Hunt opted for spontaneity over polish. Rather than chasing a perfectly produced sound, she let songs evolve naturally, which she believes captures the raw emotion the album needed.

Hunt doesn’t see acting and music as competing careers. Instead, she describes acting as “inhalation”—absorbing emotions and stories—while songwriting is the “exhalation,” letting her process those experiences creatively. That balance keeps her grounded even as her workload intensifies.

Looking ahead, Hunt is already eager to start writing her next album while hunting for acting roles that push boundaries and let her play more complex, unpredictable characters.

With both ‘Not Suitable for Work’ and ‘Blindspot’ generating buzz, Hunt is clearly entering a defining stage of her career. And she’s proving that for her, acting and music aren’t separate paths—they’re two parts of one creative journey.
