The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, founded by filmmaker George Lucas and business leader Mellody Hobson, is rolling out the red carpet for its South Los Angeles neighbors ahead of its September 22 grand opening.
George Lucas' Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will provide free annual passes and exclusive preview access to nearby South Los Angeles residents before its September opening.
Residents in the 90037 ZIP code will get free annual passes and exclusive early access to preview the museum before it opens to the general public a move museum officials say reflects their commitment to ensuring the community directly benefits from the arrival of this major cultural institution.
The free passes give qualifying neighbors year-round admission without paying regular ticket prices. Early preview events will also offer residents a chance to explore the 300,000-square-foot museum before the doors open to everyone else.
“This initiative is about strengthening our ties with the surrounding community,” a museum spokesperson said, adding that the program encourages educational opportunities and regular visits from local families.
The highly anticipated museum will showcase an extensive collection spanning paintings, photography, comic art, illustration, film memorabilia, sculptures, and digital works. Lucas’ personal collection includes iconic pieces from the ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Indiana Jones’ franchises alongside works from internationally recognized artists.
Kids and teens 17 and under will get in free year-round. Adult tickets start at $25, with discounted rates available for eligible visitors.
Located in Exposition Park, the museum represents one of the most significant cultural openings in the country. Museum leaders expect it to attract visitors worldwide while serving as an important educational resource for Los Angeles residents and families.
