HBO is bringing Emmy winner Julianne Nicholson back to the network for the second season of ‘Task’. The actress will reprise her role as Lori Ross from the critically acclaimed limited series ‘Mare of Easttown’, marking the first official connection between the two crime dramas created by Brad Ingelsby.
Julianne Nicholson reprises her Emmy-winning role as Lori Ross in HBO's Task Season 2, officially connecting the series with Mare of Easttown.
The casting announcement confirms what fans have long suspected: ‘Task’ and ‘Mare of Easttown’ take place in the same fictional world. Both shows are set in working-class communities outside Philadelphia and share Ingelsby’s gritty storytelling approach.
Nicholson earned an Emmy for her emotionally charged performance as Lori Ross in ‘Mare of Easttown’, alongside Kate Winslet’s portrayal of detective Mare Sheehan. Her character became a standout in the 2021 HBO drama. Details about her role in ‘Task’ Season 2 remain largely secret for now.
Season 2 will follow FBI agent Tom Brandis, played by Mark Ruffalo, as he leads a new task force on an investigation that grows increasingly murky. The lines between hunters and hunted blur as the case unfolds.
The season will feature a strong supporting cast including Mahershala Ali, Harry Melling, Edgar Ramírez, Adam Nagaitis, and Aminah Nieves.
While both series have always shared similar DNA through Ingelsby’s creative vision and Delaware County setting, this casting move officially links them together on screen for the first time. The crossover has fueled speculation about whether other ‘Mare of Easttown’ characters—possibly Winslet herself—could eventually show up in ‘Task’, though HBO hasn’t confirmed anything beyond Nicholson’s return.
