Kit Harington is keeping the door open for a possible return as Jon Snow. The actor suggested this week that a sequel centered on the beloved character could happen if the right story materializes.
The Jon Snow sequel has been a rocky road since HBO first explored the idea. Harington pitched the concept to the network, but the project was shelved after he and the studio couldn’t land on a narrative that felt compelling enough to pursue.
That may be changing. Harington recently indicated he’s warmer to the idea than before, signaling the project might not be completely dead.
The proposed series would pick up where Jon’s arc ended in Game of Thrones. After learning his true identity as Aegon Targaryen, Jon killed Daenerys and was exiled beyond the Wall.
Harington’s original pitch was considerably darker. It centered on a broken, isolated Jon grappling with the fallout from the series finale. HBO felt the concept was too grim and passed on it.
Now conversations are happening around a different approach. Drops of God writer Quoc Dang Tran has reportedly been brought in to explore fresh directions. One idea under discussion would shift the action away from the North and into Essos instead.
Arya Stark, played by Maisie Williams, could factor into a new version of the story.
In the Game of Thrones finale, Arya sailed west of Westeros to chart unknown territories. Pairing Jon and Arya in a sequel would allow the story to venture beyond Westeros’ familiar landscape.
Still, the project remains in early development with no timeline or release date announced.
HBO is being cautious as it weighs the possibility. The network is interested but aware of how difficult it is to extend one of TV’s biggest franchises.
Back in 2024, Harington said the Jon Snow sequel was shelved because the creative team couldn’t find a compelling direction. He emphasized he wasn’t interested in making a show just to milk the character.
His recent comments suggest he might be reconsidering. But neither Harington nor HBO has officially confirmed the project is moving forward.
Fans will have to wait to see if Jon Snow gets another chapter. Should it happen, it would stand apart from other Game of Thrones spinoffs by continuing the original story rather than exploring the past.
