The cast of Legally Blonde gathered in New York this week for an emotional reunion marking the beloved comedy’s quarter-century milestone, with Reese Witherspoon reflecting on her iconic role while embracing a new chapter for the franchise.
Reese Witherspoon and the original Legally Blonde cast reunited for the film’s 25th anniversary while passing the torch to Lexi Minetree, star of the upcoming prequel series Elle.
The “Elle World” celebration brought original cast members Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Ali Larter, Matthew Davis and Victor Garber back together for the first time in years. The stars swapped stories and revisited memories from the 2001 film that became a cultural touchstone.
Witherspoon grew visibly emotional discussing her decades-long portrayal of Elle Woods, describing the role as “the privilege of my life.” She reflected on how the character has inspired audiences worldwide to pursue confidence, kindness and ambition.
The reunion also served as a symbolic passing of the baton to actress Lexi Minetree, who will play a teenage Elle Woods in Prime Video’s forthcoming prequel series Elle. The show, set in 1995 Seattle, will follow Elle during her high school years before her fateful enrollment at Harvard Law School. The series launches July 1 and has already been renewed for a second season.
As an executive producer on the project, Witherspoon has thrown her full support behind Minetree, even lending the actress the iconic pink Marc Jacobs gown she wore to the original film’s premiere—a symbolic “passing of the pink torch.”
The reunion brought plenty of laughs. Ali Larter recreated her unforgettable “Liposuction!” moment while cast members reminisced about filming and the friendships that have endured across the franchise.
The original Legally Blonde followed sorority girl Elle Woods as she chases her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law School, only to discover her own intelligence and strength. The film raked in over $140 million worldwide and spawned a sequel, a Broadway musical and now a television series.
As Elle prepares to premiere, the anniversary event celebrated the franchise’s lasting cultural impact while looking ahead to a promising future.
