Max Amini Finds Inner Peace as Iranian‑American Comedian

Max Amini, an Iranian-American stand-up comedian, has talked about how he finds peace in the middle of rising tensions between the US and Iran. He uses his comedy and public platform to talk about his identity, faith, and mental health during a time of war.

Amini was born in Tucson, Arizona to an Iranian family. He grew up moving back and forth between U.S. and Middle Eastern cultures, which gives him a unique perspective on how political conflict affects communities in the diaspora. Today, when strikes and sanctions are in the news, he uses that duality in performances that mix humor with deep thoughts about belonging and finding spiritual balance.

In a recent long interview with Yasmin Vossoughian of NBC News, Amini talked about what it means to be Iranian-American “in the middle of a war between the U.S. and Iran.” She used her own experiences to help people understand and connect with her. He says that storytelling, especially through comedy, can help fix false stories in the media and give a voice to people who are being oppressed by the Islamic Republic.

As Hollywood deals with war fatigue and political division, Amini has talked more and more about mental health, mindfulness, and spiritual practices as ways to stay grounded during hard times. He says in interviews and clips for his upcoming comedy special that meditation, self-reflection, and a clear philosophy are “the only key” to dealing with anxiety and work stress in the age of social media.

While During his Madison Square Garden sell-out run, he told interviewers that for him, peace isn’t the absence of conflict but the presence of inner clarity and boundaries. “You really have to focus on your mental health no matter who you are,” he said, stressing that pushing too hard for outside approval can make things worse inside.

Amini has done more than just make jokes. He has also become an activist. He and Iranian-American lawyer Bobby Samini started the “Alliance for a Free Iran,” a group that asks Hollywood and other public figures to speak out about human rights abuses in Iran. People who contact them risk arrest or worse.
