Netflix is expanding the cast of its highly anticipated hockey romance series Icebreaker. Six new series regulars are joining leads Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos.
The newcomers include Gabriel Tierney, Auliʻi Cravalho, Peter Berry, Chaneil Kular, Devin Craig and Aidan Shaw. Together, they add more depth to the adaptation of Hannah Grace’s bestselling novel.
With the latest casting news, the Icebreaker ensemble is starting to take shape. Fans are now getting a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming romance drama.
A Mix of Established Names and Rising Talent
First up, Gabriel Tierney will play Aaron. The actor is known for Rivals and Enola Holmes 2.
Meanwhile, Auliʻi Cravalho joins the series as Lola. Her character is Stassie’s close friend and roommate.
Cravalho is best known for voicing Moana in Disney’s animated hit Moana. She later reprised the role for Moana 2. Therefore, her addition brings another familiar face to the growing cast.
Professional athlete Peter Berry will play Robbie. Chaneil Kular, meanwhile, takes on the role of JJ.
Kular is already familiar to Netflix viewers. He appeared as Anwar Bakshi in Sex Education.
The ensemble also includes Devin Craig as Henry. Craig previously appeared in The Sex Lives of College Girls.
Finally, Aidan Shaw will portray Russ. Shaw has also worked in the sports-romance genre through Heated Rivalry.
Meet the Central Couple
The new additions join Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos, who were announced as the leads shortly before the latest casting reveal.
Jelley will portray Anastasia “Stassie” Allen. She is a competitive figure skater with her sights set on Olympic gold.
Simos, meanwhile, stars as Nate Hawkins. He is a college hockey player chasing his own dream of reaching the NHL.
However, their ambitions become complicated when their paths cross.
Stassie and Nate’s Worlds Collide
Stassie and Nate come from two very different sporting worlds. Yet, circumstances force their teams to share the same rink.
At first, the situation creates plenty of tension. Both athletes have their own goals and little time for distractions.
Gradually, though, their rivalry starts to change.
What begins as competition develops into something much more personal. As a result, the story sets up the familiar enemies-to-lovers dynamic that romance fans know and love.
From BookTok Sensation to Netflix Series
Icebreaker is based on Hannah Grace’s bestselling debut novel.
The book became a major BookTok phenomenon. It also spent 70 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list.
Moreover, the novel has sold nearly five million copies worldwide. It has also been translated into 24 languages.
Because of that massive readership, the Netflix adaptation already has an established fan base waiting to see the story on screen.
The novel is also the first entry in Grace’s Maple Hills universe. The series later expanded with Wildfire and Daydream.
Strong Creative Team Behind Icebreaker
Netflix has assembled an experienced creative team for the adaptation.
Amanda Lasher serves as showrunner and executive producer. Her previous credits include Gossip Girl and The Bold Type.
Jade Halley Bartlett created the series and is also an executive producer. She previously wrote Miller’s Girl.
Meanwhile, Grace is involved with the adaptation as an executive producer. That connection could help keep the series closely tied to the world created in the original novel.
When Will Icebreaker Premiere?
For now, Netflix has not announced an official premiere date.
However, production is expected to begin in Vancouver in October 2026.
As filming approaches, more casting announcements and production updates could follow. Fans will likely be watching closely for their first look at Stassie, Nate and the rest of the Maple Hills characters.
