Peacock Orders Three-Part Documentary About ‘The Wendy Williams Show’

Peacock is taking viewers behind the scenes of one of daytime television’s most recognizable talk shows with a new three-part documentary about The Wendy Williams Show.

Titled Clap If You Care: The Wendy Williams Show, the documentary will follow Wendy Williams’ rise to television stardom, examine the show’s influence on pop culture and explore the events that ultimately brought the program to an end.

The three-part series will revisit Williams’ career and the cultural impact of her daytime talk show, which became a destination for celebrity gossip, entertainment news and outspoken commentary.

Peacock says the documentary will celebrate the “outrageous fun” and cultural relevance that defined The Wendy Williams Show while also examining the more complicated side of Williams’ rise to fame.

The series will premiere on Peacock in 2027, although the streaming service has not announced an exact release date. The documentary’s current title also remains a working title and could change before its debut.

The documentary will offer an insider’s perspective on The Wendy Williams Show. More than 20 former employees are expected to participate and share their experiences from the program’s 13-season run.

Suzanne Bass, who served as an executive producer on the talk show for all 13 seasons, will also executive produce the documentary. Her involvement could give the project a closer look at how the show developed and operated behind the scenes.

Ian Orefice, Jon Adler, Amanda Spain and Missy Walker will executive produce for EverWonder Studio. Chris Witherspoon, Vanessa Golembewski and Bass will also serve as executive producers.

The Wendy Williams Show premiered in 2008, following Williams’ successful career as a radio personality. She quickly brought her direct approach to celebrity news to television and built a distinctive on-screen identity around candid opinions and entertainment commentary.

The syndicated talk show ran for 13 seasons before ending in 2022. During its run, it became a major fixture of daytime television.

Williams’ “Hot Topics” segment became one of the show’s defining features. She used the segment to discuss celebrity headlines, entertainment controversies and the latest developments in pop culture.

The program also featured celebrity interviews, lifestyle segments and memorable moments that frequently spread across social media.

While Clap If You Care will revisit the show’s success, the documentary will also examine the circumstances surrounding its conclusion.

That approach could distinguish the Peacock series from previous projects about Williams. Lifetime’s Where Is Wendy Williams?, for example, focused primarily on Williams’ life after the cancellation of her talk show.
