Perez Hilton Hands Temporary Custody of Three Children to His Mother During Hospitalization

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has turned over temporary custody of his three children to his mother as he remains hospitalized following a severe mental health crisis earlier this month.

Court documents filed in Miami-Dade County show that Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., agreed to allow his mother, Teresita Lavandeira, to assume temporary custody of his children: son Mario, 13, and daughters Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8. The move comes as Hilton recovers from a troubling incident that prompted emergency responders to intervene at his Miami home on Aug. 4.

According to reports, the hospitalization followed a livestream broadcast from his residence that alerted authorities to a serious mental health emergency. Hilton suffered significant injuries and remains under medical care, with his condition described as serious but stable.

Lavandeira filed the temporary custody request on Aug. 7, with her attorney stating the decision was made to protect the children and ensure their stability during this turbulent period for the family. The children were moved to safety shortly after the incident.

The custody arrangement grants Lavandeira authority to make decisions regarding the children’s healthcare and education. She has also requested that the case be sealed to shield her grandchildren from additional media scrutiny.

“The move provides temporary protection for the children while their father focuses on his recovery,” according to court filings.

The 48-year-old, who built his reputation as a prominent gossip blogger in the 2000s and later expanded into television and podcasting, continues to receive treatment. His family has asked for privacy as they support his recovery and help his children navigate the situation.

The temporary custody arrangement does not represent a permanent change to Hilton’s parental rights, but rather a practical solution during his hospitalization and healing process.
