Sean “Diddy” Combs moved one step closer to freedom after federal officials advanced his prison release date for the third time in recent months. The Bad Boy Records founder now expects to leave federal custody on February 23, 2028.
Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal prison release date has been moved up again to February 2028. The music mogul continues rehabilitation programs while pursuing an appeal of his conviction.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons currently houses Combs at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he is serving a 50-month sentence. Officials recently updated his projected release date, cutting several more weeks from his remaining prison term.
Since a federal judge sentenced him in October 2025, Combs has seen his expected release date change multiple times. Authorities initially projected a May 2028 release before shifting it to June 2028. Subsequent sentence recalculations and program credits gradually moved the date forward.
Although federal officials have not disclosed the exact reason for the latest reduction, reports indicate that Combs continues to participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs. His legal team previously secured his placement at FCI Fort Dix because the facility offers extensive rehabilitation resources and allows easier access to family visits.
Many federal inmates earn sentence reductions through approved prison initiatives, including residential drug abuse programs. Combs appears to have qualified for several of those benefits as he works through his sentence.
At the same time, Combs continues to fight his conviction in court. His attorneys have filed appeals that challenge the 2025 verdict, arguing that trial errors affected the outcome. They hope to secure either a new sentencing hearing or a complete reversal of the conviction. Federal prosecutors, however, continue to defend the verdict as the appeal process moves forward.
A federal jury convicted Combs on two counts related to transporting individuals for prostitution after a closely watched trial in New York. The jury, however, acquitted him of the more serious racketeering and sex-trafficking charges that could have resulted in a much longer prison sentence.
According to his attorney, Combs spends much of his time studying legal documents, exercising, and preparing for his appeal. Those close to him say he has focused heavily on self-improvement while serving his sentence.
Unless a court grants additional relief or his appeal succeeds, Combs will remain in federal custody until February 23, 2028.
