The upcoming eighth season of Hulu’s The Kardashians is shaping up to be an emotional one. A newly released trailer shows Kim Kardashian in a hospital bed revealing that she’s been diagnosed with esophagitis, an inflammation of the esophagus.
The diagnosis has hit particularly close to home for Kim and her family. Her father, Robert Kardashian, died from esophageal cancer in 2003 at age 59. In the trailer, someone asks Kim whether her condition is related to what her father died from, prompting Kris Jenner to become visibly emotional while discussing the situation.
It’s important to note that the trailer does not suggest Kim has esophageal cancer. Esophagitis refers to inflammation or irritation of the esophagus and can be caused by several factors, including acid reflux. The severity of Kim’s condition isn’t detailed in the preview.
The family’s concern about esophageal health isn’t new. Back in 2019, Kim, Kris, Kourtney, Khloé and Kendall helped open the UCLA Robert G. Kardashian Center for Esophageal Health in Los Angeles.
Beyond Kim’s storyline, the season eight trailer promises plenty of relationship and family drama. Kendall Jenner addresses longstanding speculation about her relationship with model and actress Cara Delevingne. In the trailer, Kendall denies rumors that the two dated, though she keeps things lighthearted, suggesting she wouldn’t rule out the possibility in the future.
The new season will also explore the relationships and personal lives of other Kardashian-Jenner family members, including dating drama and Kris Jenner’s worries about her children becoming more distant.
The Kardashians Season 8 premieres October 8, 2026, on Hulu.
