Comedy legend Will Ferrell is trading the ski slopes for the fairways. The actor is set to lead Netflix’s new sports comedy series, ‘The Hawk’, playing fictional golf icon Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins. Netflix recently gave fans their first look at the project, showcasing Ferrell’s vibrant take on the larger-than-life character.
Ferrell’s character was once the world’s best golfer back in 2004. Now, refusing to accept that his glory days are behind him, Hawkins is determined to complete golf’s career Grand Slam through an unlikely comeback. Standing in his way are physical setbacks, strained family relationships, and hungry young competitors ready to claim the throne.
It’s a recipe that blends sports drama with Ferrell’s signature comedic timing, creating what amounts to an underdog story about redemption and refusing to quit.
Ferrell shares the screen with a seasoned ensemble, including Molly Shannon, Luke Wilson, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver, and David Hornsby. The lineup reunites Ferrell with several longtime comedy collaborators.
Netflix’s promotional materials introduce Hawkins in his full glory—complete with a bright pink polo shirt and white visor. The teasers hint at both the character’s swagger and his self-aware humor, suggesting audiences are in for a fun ride.
All 10 episodes drop on Netflix on July 16, 2026. It marks Ferrell’s first leading role in a television comedy series and is expected to appeal to both comedy fans and golf enthusiasts alike.
