Amazon MGM Studios has dropped the first trailer for ‘I Play Rocky’, a new biographical drama that tells the true story of how Sylvester Stallone fought his way to stardom by refusing to sell his Rocky screenplay unless he could star in it himself. Anthony Ippolito takes on the role of a young Stallone, delivering a striking transformation that’s already turning heads.
Directed by Peter Farrelly, known for ‘Green Book’, the film explores Stallone’s relentless push against industry rejection and financial hardship during the mid-1970s. It’s a story of an unknown actor who gambled everything on his vision—and won big.
Ippolito, who previously played Al Pacino in ‘The Offer”I Play Rocky’ Trailer: Anthony Ippolito Steps Into Young Stallone’s Shoes, bears an uncanny resemblance to the young Stallone, nailing both his distinctive voice and steely determination. The trailer captures the intensity of those early days when studios kept turning him down, but Stallone refused to give up.
Unlike typical biopics, ‘I Play Rocky’ doesn’t rehash the fictional boxing drama itself. Instead, it focuses on the behind-the-scenes battle to get the film made. The original ‘Rocky’ went on to earn over $225 million worldwide and snagged the Best Picture Oscar, launching one of cinema’s most beloved franchises. But before any of that success, there was just a struggling screenwriter willing to risk it all.
The film brings together an impressive lineup, including AnnaSophia Robb, Stephan James, Matt Dillon, Tracy Letts, Jay Duplass, and Toby Kebbell, among others. Together, they help recreate the pivotal moments that shaped one of Hollywood’s greatest underdog stories.
‘I Play Rocky’ hits select theaters November 13, 2026, before rolling out nationwide on November 20, 2026.
