Jason Sudeikis Crashes Mumford & Sons’ Madison Square Garden Show to Sing ‘Ted Lasso’ Theme

Jason Sudeikis caught everyone off guard Tuesday night when he hopped onstage at Mumford & Sons’ Madison Square Garden concert to perform the theme song from his hit Apple TV+ series ‘Ted Lasso’.

The actor and show co-creator was sitting in the audience during the band’s New York City show on August 11 when a camera spotted him in the crowd. What happened next delighted the packed arena: Sudeikis made his way to the stage and joined frontman Marcus Mumford for an impromptu rendition of the beloved opening theme.

Dressed casually in a black hoodie, khaki shorts and a baseball cap, Sudeikis appeared to be enjoying the concert like any other fan before his surprise turn as a performer.

He took the stage alongside Mumford and sang the chorus of the ‘Ted Lasso’ opening theme—officially titled “Ted Lasso Theme” which was penned by Mumford himself and composer Tom Howe. The collaboration has deep roots, with Mumford’s music woven throughout the series since its premiere.

The moment drew massive cheers from the Madison Square Garden crowd. Mumford even cracked a joke afterward, telling the audience to pipe down or he’d “tick Ted” on them.

The surprise appearance came just days after ‘Ted Lasso’ kicked off its fourth season on August 5 more than three years after season three seemed to wrap up Ted’s story.

Apple TV+ decided to bring the show back for another run, and Sudeikis returned as the eternally optimistic American football coach. This time around, Ted takes on a new gig: coaching a second-division women’s football team while navigating bigger risks and unexpected opportunities.

The returning cast includes Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt and Jeremy Swift, alongside fresh faces joining the fold. New episodes drop weekly on Apple TV+, with the season slated to wrap up October 7.
