Julianne Moore walked away with one of cinema’s most prestigious honors this week. Kering presented her with the Women in Motion Award at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
The 65-year-old Oscar winner was feted at a luncheon on May 17 at the Hotel Martinez for her decades of acclaimed performances. She was also praised for her vocal advocacy for better representation of women in Hollywood. The award recognizes female figures in cinema who have pushed the needle on gender equality both in front of and behind the camera.
Moore’s mantle is crowded with accolades—an Academy Award, Golden Globes, and a Cannes Best Actress prize among them. She has built her reputation on emotionally layered roles in films like Boogie Nights, Far from Heaven, The Hours, and Still Alice. Each one marks a creative risk worth taking.
“She joins an extraordinary group of women,” a Kering spokesperson noted, pointing to past honorees including Nicole Kidman, Jane Fonda, Viola Davis, and Michelle Yeoh.
The ceremony also shone a spotlight on emerging talent. Italian filmmaker Margherita Spampinato received the Women in Motion Emerging Talent Award. This emphasized the gala’s dual mission: honoring established powerhouses while nurturing the next generation of female filmmakers and storytellers reshaping global cinema.
