Rising Star Kingston Rumi Southwick Breaks Down ‘Widow’s Bay’ Success and What’s Next for Season 2

Kingston Rumi Southwick never expected his character to become the centerpiece of Apple TV+’s horror-comedy hit Widow’s Bay, but the Season 1 finale changed everything.

Quick Summary

Kingston Rumi Southwick discusses Widow’s Bay Season 1, working with Matthew Rhys, hidden Easter eggs, and why fans can expect much more of Evan in Season 2.

The young actor, who plays Evan, the rebellious son of Mayor Tom Loftis, recently opened up about his breakout role, the lessons he learned from co-star Matthew Rhys, and the mysteries waiting in Season 2.

When filming began, Southwick knew very little about Evan’s long-term arc. With access to only the first few scripts, he assumed he was portraying a typical troubled teenager. Everything changed when a producer’s assistant hinted that Evan would play a crucial role in the show’s biggest mystery.

The Season 1 finale confirmed that prediction by revealing that Evan is the last living descendant of the island’s founder—and the key to unlocking the curse haunting Widow’s Bay. The twist now drives the story into the already renewed second season.

Southwick says Matthew Rhys, an Emmy-winning veteran, helped him view scenes through the eyes of the audience rather than focusing solely on his own performance. Rhys often pointed out how viewers would react to emotional moments and comedic beats, advice that proved invaluable for a series that constantly shifts between horror, mystery, and comedy.

One element Southwick especially enjoys is the show’s ability to balance scares with humor. He explained that the cast and crew often filmed scenes in multiple ways, allowing directors to choose the performances that best captured the series’ unique tone.

He also praised the creative team for encouraging experimentation, which helped shape the show’s distinct style.

Among his favorite experiences was filming the “boogeyman” episode, which featured the actor behind Michael Myers in the Halloween franchise. Southwick became such a fan that he visited the set even on days when he wasn’t scheduled to work, simply to watch the veteran performer in action.

He also fondly remembers several hilarious scenes with Matthew Rhys that never made the final cut but created memorable moments behind the scenes.

With Apple TV+ officially renewing Widow’s Bay, Southwick promises that fans will see much more of Evan in Season 2. He looks forward to exploring darker storylines and more intense horror while eagerly seeking clues from creator Katie Dippold about what lies ahead.

Southwick also teases that viewers still haven’t uncovered every Easter egg hidden throughout Season 1. Although fans have solved some mysteries, he insists that several subtle clues remain undiscovered, especially in the finale.

As Widow’s Bay prepares for its next chapter, Evan appears ready to step into an even larger role. With plenty of unanswered questions and more horrors lurking beneath the surface, Season 2 promises to reveal even more secrets from the cursed island.

Season 2 is currently in development, and according to Southwick, Widow’s Bay still holds many dark mysteries waiting to emerge.
