Netflix is diving back into the Manifest universe with a new spinoff series called Arrivals, and original series creator Jeff Rake is returning to helm the project.
The streaming giant gave the greenlight to the new show several years after wrapping up the original Manifest, which ran for four seasons. Netflix had actually saved the supernatural drama from cancellation after NBC pulled the plug following Season 3, ultimately giving fans a two-part fourth and final season to bring closure to the story.
Arrivals will introduce a completely different mystery within the Manifest world. The premise centers on a plane that crash-lands in Denver, but here’s the twist: the passengers have no recollection of their identities, where they came from, or why they’re there.
A young social worker and a rookie Homeland Security agent team up with these mysterious survivors to piece together the truth and stop what could be a catastrophe threatening all of humanity. As the investigation unfolds, the characters discover they’re not just unlucky survivors they’re actually connected to the larger mystery at the heart of it all.
Rake, who created and ran the original Manifest, is back to develop the spinoff. Arrivals is expected to maintain the original show’s blend of mystery, supernatural storytelling, and character-driven narratives while introducing an entirely fresh cast.
The new series is being positioned to work both as a jumping-on point for newcomers and as a treat for longtime Manifest fans who’ll recognize the familiar themes.
Netflix also had some fun with the announcement itself: the spinoff was revealed on August 28 at 8:28 a.m. PT a clever callback to Flight 828, the plane at the heart of the original series.
The streaming service hasn’t announced a premiere date, cast, or episode count just yet, but more information should roll out as production moves forward.
