Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ Trailer Offers a Darker Spin on Stephen King’s Horror Classic

Prime Video just dropped the official trailer for Mike Flanagan’s take on ‘Carrie’, giving fans their first real look at the highly anticipated TV adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal horror novel. The eight-episode series hits Prime Video exclusively on October 7, 2026.

Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, the sheltered teenager whose world turns upside down when she enters public high school. Flanagan, the creative mind behind acclaimed horror series like ‘The Haunting of Hill House’ and ‘Midnight Mass’, is handling the showrunner, writing, and directing duties for the adaptation.

This marks the first time Carrie has been adapted as a television series. Rather than just rehashing the familiar story, Flanagan’s version gives it room to breathe expanding the characters and exploring Carrie’s life across eight full episodes.

The narrative picks up after Carrie’s father dies suddenly, forcing her into public school for the first time. There she encounters brutal bullying and the pressures of social media while grappling with emerging telekinetic powers she can’t control or understand.

The trailer emphasizes the toxic dynamic between Carrie and her religiously strict mother, Margaret White, played by Samantha Sloyan. It also showcases the hostile high school environment and the mounting tensions that eventually lead to catastrophe.

Prime Video is framing this as a modern reinvention of King’s coming-of-age horror tale, one that examines themes of cruelty versus compassion and asks whether Carrie is ultimately a victim, a hero, or something far more complex.

Howell secured the part after auditioning alongside more than 1,000 other actors. She shares the screen with Sloyan, Siena Agudong, Alison Thornton, Joel Oulette, Josie Totah, Arthur Conti, Thalia Dudek, Amber Midthunder, and Matthew Lillard in the ensemble cast.

Flanagan reunites with several actors from his previous projects, adding another layer of familiarity for his devoted fanbase.

All eight episodes premiere on Prime Video on October 7, 2026, positioning the series as one of fall’s biggest horror launches. Stephen King himself is on board as an executive producer, with Amazon MGM Studios handling production.

The new adaptation arrives exactly 50 years after Brian De Palma’s landmark 1976 film, which cemented Carrie as one of horror’s most influential stories.
