Oscar-nominated actress Monica Barbaro is close to landing a role in Warner Bros.’ upcoming ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ prequel, sources say. She’d be joining Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, who is directing, writing, and starring in the heist film set for release in 2027.
Monica Barbaro is in talks to join the Ocean's Eleven prequel starring Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, with the Warner Bros. film set for 2027.
The cast is shaping up to be star-studded. Brazilian actor Wagner Moura is also in talks to join the ensemble, making this one of the studio’s most closely watched projects in development.
After director Lee Isaac Chung departed earlier this year, Cooper stepped in to oversee the creative direction. The filmmaker behind ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Maestro’ is now developing a fresh script for the project, building on earlier drafts penned by Carrie Solomon.
Warner Bros. has kept details under wraps, but production is expected to kick off soon ahead of the June 25, 2027 release date.
The prequel will take viewers back to 1962 Monaco during the Grand Prix, where Danny Ocean’s parents plan an ambitious heist years before the events of Steven Soderbergh’s original trilogy. Robbie previously confirmed the period setting, hinting that the film will explore the origins of the legendary Ocean family while expanding the universe fans know and love.
Barbaro’s stock has been climbing steadily. The actress earned an Oscar nomination and recently turned heads in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘A Complete Unknown’, where she played Joan Baez. Landing a spot in the ‘Ocean’s’ prequel would solidify her status as a major Hollywood player capable of handling both prestige and blockbuster roles.
The ‘Ocean’s’ franchise remains one of Warner Bros.’ most lucrative heist series. After Steven Soderbergh’s original trilogy and the 2018 female-led spinoff ‘Ocean’s 8’, this prequel marks the franchise’s return to theaters—offering audiences a stylish origin story set decades before Danny Ocean’s iconic crew came together.
