The first trailer for ‘Oasis (Oase)’ has arrived, offering audiences a tense first look at German filmmaker Jannis Lenz’s feature debut, which will premiere at the 2026 Venice Film Festival.
The film follows a group of teenage outsiders as violence and fear take hold of their school. At the same time, Oasis explores identity, friendship and alienation while examining the growing pressures young people face between school, family and social expectations.
The trouble begins when a student’s threatening video goes viral. At first, the incident appears isolated. However, it soon triggers an escalating wave of violence that spreads throughout the school.
As a result, administrators and parents struggle to regain control. Meanwhile, three students who feel increasingly isolated from those around them decide to escape to a nearby forest. Away from the rules and pressure of school, the teenagers begin building a world of their own. However, what starts as an escape gradually becomes darker and more complicated.
According to Venice’s official description, their games eventually transform into rituals. At the same time, physical pain becomes a way for them to escape their emotional struggles. As buried wounds begin to resurface, their friendship also starts to fracture.
Moreover, the trailer establishes a raw and unsettling atmosphere. It moves between anxious school hallways and the isolated forest where the teenagers search for freedom. Yet, rather than presenting the forest as a simple hideaway, Oasis turns it into a place where the characters’ anger, fears and emotions can grow stronger.
Oasis marks Jannis Lenz’s first feature film. Through the story, the writer-director examines the quiet brutality that can exist within human relationships, particularly during adolescence.
Meanwhile, the film features Florian Geißelmann, Anton Petzold, Mathilda Smidt and Godehard Giese. The movie has a reported runtime of 118 minutes and is a German-Austrian co-production.
Importantly, Oasis does not present violence simply as an outside threat. Instead, the film explores how fear, isolation and social pressure can shape young people and influence their relationships.
At the center of the story are the three teenagers who flee into the forest. As their bond grows increasingly intense, their friendship raises difficult questions about identity, belonging and the need for connection.
Oasis has been selected for the Orizzonti section of the 2026 Venice Film Festival, where it will have its world premiere. The film is part of the festival’s 2026 Cinema lineup.
As a result, the Venice premiere could provide an important international platform for Lenz’s debut feature. Furthermore, its focus on adolescent alienation, friendship and escalating violence could make it one of the more intriguing titles in this year’s Orizzonti selection.
Ultimately, the newly released trailer suggests that Oasis will combine a coming-of-age story with a darker examination of the pressures facing young people. Following its Venice debut, the film could also attract attention from international festival audiences and distributors.
