Marvel’s ‘VisionQuest’ Trailer Teases Paul Bettany’s Return and an Unexpected Ultron Reunion

Marvel Studios has finally given fans their first real glimpse at ‘VisionQuest’, and it’s a doozy. The new trailer introduces Paul Bettany back in the role of Vision specifically White Vision and suggests the upcoming Disney+ series will take the character down a deeply introspective path filled with existential questions and mind-bending visuals.

The show marks the third and final installment in a television trilogy that kicked off with ‘WandaVision’ back in 2021, followed by ‘Agatha All Along’ last year. Bettany’s White Vision is the synthezoid who left Westview with the original Vision’s memories in tow, setting the stage for what appears to be a fascinating identity crisis.

The core of ‘VisionQuest’ seems to center on White Vision’s struggle to make sense of inherited memories from a life he never actually lived. It’s heavy stuff, and the trailer doesn’t shy away from the philosophical weight of it all.

The original Vision’s body was reconstructed by S.W.O.R.D. as a weapon against Wanda Maximoff, but when he was given the real Vision’s memories, he never quite connected with them emotionally. He simply flew off, leaving everyone to wonder what came next.

This new series picks up that thread. The trailer takes viewers inside Vision’s consciousness, a surreal landscape where memories and AI programs take on physical forms. It’s visually inventive stuff very much in line with the reality-bending aesthetic that ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha All Along’ established.

Throughout the footage, Vision wrestles with a fundamental question: Do inherited memories make him the same person he once was?

Perhaps the biggest surprise in the trailer is James Spader’s return as Ultron, the AI villain from 2015’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’. It’s a significant return given that Ultron essentially created the framework that led to Vision’s existence in the first place.

But Ultron looks different this time around. Spader appears in human form as White Vision confronts what seems to be a complicated relationship between creator and creation. The series appears ready to dig into Vision’s existential baggage with his artificial “father” a dynamic that promises to be anything but straightforward.

The trailer also reveals an odd collection of familiar AI programs that apparently exist as separate personalities inside Vision’s consciousness. James D’Arcy returns as J.A.R.V.I.S., the artificial intelligence that eventually became Vision’s foundation. Orla Brady plays F.R.I.D.A.Y., while the trailer also features appearances from D.U.M.-E, U and E.D.I.T.H.

Rather than just appearing as disembodied voices, these characters manifest as actual personalities inhabiting what looks like a mansion inside Vision’s mind. It’s a trippy concept that could allow the series to explore Vision’s relationship with technology and the various systems that have defined his existence throughout the MCU.

The trailer also introduces Ruaridh Mollica as Thomas Shepherd, tying back to Wanda and Vision’s complicated family history. ‘Agatha All Along’ established that Billy Maximoff’s soul had been transferred into Billy Kaplan’s body, and the series teased his search for his twin brother, Tommy.

Thomas Shepherd is the comic-book identity for Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed. His appearance in ‘VisionQuest’ suggests the series will continue building on that family storyline. While Joe Locke’s return as Billy hasn’t been officially confirmed, the connection between the brothers could become a major plot point.

‘VisionQuest’ comes from showrunner Terry Matalas, known for his work on ‘Star Trek: Picard’. The series is set to premiere on Disney+ on October 14, 2026, and will bring together Bettany, Spader, James D’Arcy, Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, and others.

Marvel clearly intends this to be the grand finale of its WandaVision trilogy, meaning it’ll need to tie up Vision’s loose ends while staying true to the weird, unconventional tone the previous entries established. With White Vision searching for his humanity,
