Director Asghar Farhadi is making a return to French-language filmmaking with Parallel Tales, a psychological drama that premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. At 139 minutes, the film follows Sylvie, a novelist portrayed by Huppert, who becomes obsessed with observing her neighbors from across the street while searching for creative inspiration. Her world takes an unexpected turn when she employs Adam, played by Adam Bessa, to assist with household tasks. What unfolds is a complex web of consequences that ripples through both her fiction and reality.
The premise allows Farhadi, who earned acclaim for A Separation and The Past, to delve into familiar territory—the tension between imagination and truth.
