Netflix Cancels ‘Ransom Canyon’ After Two Seasons

Netflix has pulled the plug on its romantic Western drama “Ransom Canyon,” ending the Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly series after just two seasons. The decision came less than two months after Season 2 premiered on the streaming service.

Created by April Blair and adapted from Jodi Thomas’ novels, the show centered on ranching families in a fictional Texas community grappling with land disputes, family turmoil and romance. Duhamel played Staten Kirkland, a ranch owner, while Kelly portrayed Quinn O’Grady, his love interest.

The cancellation followed a notable drop in viewers during Season 2. The second season drew approximately 4.1 million viewers in its opening week, down sharply from the 7.2 million who tuned in for Season 1’s debut. Season 2 also spent just three weeks in Netflix’s Top 10 compared to four weeks for the first season.

The sophomore season featured eight episodes, fewer than the 10 that made up Season 1, though internal reviews were reportedly more positive creatively.

The ensemble cast included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada and others. The series premiered in April 2025 and returned for its second season in July 2026.

Season 2 ended with Staten and Quinn finally committing to each other after Quinn rejected a marriage proposal from her British boyfriend, Oliver. Creator Blair had hinted that Season 3 would explore their relationship deepening, along with unresolved storylines involving other characters.

Despite previous plans for a third season, Netflix has now closed the book on the series. At least viewers get some romantic closure with Staten and Quinn together.
