Rohin Joshi on Acting, Success & Staying Humble

Actor Rohin Joshi, known for playing Murli in Ganga Mai Ki Betiyaan, has opened up about his acting journey, his definition of success, and the challenges he has faced in television.

For Joshi, a career in entertainment is about more than landing roles. More importantly, he believes curiosity, honesty, and the desire to keep learning are essential for long-term growth.

The Advice That Shaped Rohin Joshi

When asked about the advice that influenced him the most, Joshi refers to an idea from Acharya Prashant’s book Decoding Success.

The message focuses on staying curious and continuing to question things. At the same time, once you gain clarity, you should stand firmly by it.

Although the advice is about life in general, Joshi feels it applies equally to his career.

For him, curiosity has become an important part of his growth. Moreover, he believes learning should never stop, regardless of how experienced an actor becomes.

How Rohin Joshi Defines Success

For Joshi, success is not simply about fame or popularity. Instead, he connects it with constant self-improvement.

He considers himself successful when he remains curious, honest, and detail-oriented about his work. Therefore, he prefers to focus on improving his craft rather than chasing external validation.

At the same time, Joshi has professional ambitions.

He hopes to reach a stage where he can choose roles according to his own preferences. Yet, he also wants to have enough opportunities to continue working.

However, he accepts that his definition of success may change as he grows.

Actors Are Not Their Characters

Joshi also addresses a common misconception about actors.

Many viewers assume that performers are similar to the characters they portray. However, Joshi believes that this is often far from reality.

According to him, actors step into completely different personalities and emotional worlds. Of course, some physical or behavioural traits may overlap.

Nevertheless, he says audiences should not automatically connect an actor’s real personality with their on-screen role.

Lessons From Experienced Actors

Working with experienced performers has given Joshi valuable insight into the television industry.

He particularly enjoys hearing stories about their earlier shows. Through these conversations, he has also learned how the industry functioned in the past.

However, one lesson stands out above everything else.

“No matter how experienced or successful you become as an actor, your humility and honesty will always be paramount.”

That belief has become an important part of Joshi’s professional approach. For him, success should always go hand in hand with humility.

Rohin Joshi’s Approach to Competition

When it comes to competition, Joshi has a clear perspective.

He considers auditions to be the main stage where actors compete. Once inside the audition room, however, he focuses entirely on his own performance.

After all, the final decision depends on the casting team’s vision as well.

Therefore, Joshi concentrates on what he can control — his preparation and performance.

Once he gets a role, his approach changes. Instead of treating co-stars as rivals, he sees them as collaborators.

As a result, he believes the entire team can perform better when actors support each other.

His Early Days Were Filled With Self-Doubt

Like many newcomers, Joshi experienced moments of self-doubt when he started working in television.

His initial days on set were particularly challenging. In fact, he had to reshoot his first two scenes because he struggled to perform comfortably.

The television set was a completely new environment for him. There were unfamiliar people, new processes, and a camera setup he had never experienced before.

As a result, he started questioning himself.

Still, he reminded himself that he had earned the role through his audition. Therefore, he believed that becoming comfortable on set was simply another part of the learning process.

Ankur and Srishti Jain Supported Him

During that difficult phase, his director Ankur and former co-star Srishti Jain became important sources of support.

Their encouragement helped Joshi regain confidence. Slowly, he began settling into the environment.

Moreover, he realised that performing well during an audition meant he already had the ability to perform.

He simply needed time to understand the set and become comfortable in front of the camera.

That realisation helped him overcome his early doubts.

The Scene He Remembers Most

One particular scene remains especially memorable for Joshi.

In the sequence, his character discovers that his wife has lied to him and stolen money from their home. The moment leaves him completely shocked.

Interestingly, the scene had very little dialogue for Joshi.

Instead, his reactions had to communicate everything. His character had to appear stunned and confused while the surrounding drama continued.

That made the sequence particularly challenging.

An Unexpected Appreciation on Set

What made the moment even more special was that Joshi did not know his reactions were being captured so closely.

The DOP, Bhavesh, was operating a portable jib and recorded his reactions during the scene.

After the director called cut, Joshi received praise over the microphone. Several members of the team also appreciated his performance.

The external appreciation gave him confidence. More importantly, however, Joshi realised that he had performed the scene honestly.

Although only a small portion of his reactions eventually appeared in the final cut, the experience stayed with him.

Learning the Technical Side of Camera Acting

Joshi also admits that technical knowledge was one of his biggest early challenges.

Initially, he was not familiar with the technical aspects of camera acting. Because of this, he sometimes needed more takes than necessary.

Over time, however, he began understanding how camera acting differs from stage performances or auditions.

The intensity of gestures, dialogue delivery and movement can change depending on the camera and lighting setup.

Therefore, an actor needs to understand the technical requirements of every shot.

Why Honesty Alone Isn’t Enough

For Joshi, honesty remains at the heart of acting. However, he believes craft and technical knowledge are equally important.

An actor needs to be emotionally honest in a scene. At the same time, they must understand how that performance will work on camera.

Since Joshi never attended film school, he learned many of these technical aspects directly on set.

Even today, he admits that there are areas he continues to work on. Nevertheless, he has improved considerably since starting his television journey.

Rohin Joshi Continues to Learn

Rohin Joshi’s journey so far has been shaped by learning, self-reflection and perseverance.

From overcoming his initial nervousness to understanding camera techniques, every experience has added something to his craft.
