SAAND KI AANKH – Movie Review

SAAND KI AANKH – …”Yeh Toh Hona Hi Tha…” — says most of the men in Chandro & Prakashi Tomar’s life. Looks like a lot of things in U.P. & Bihar – India are not good for woman to aspire in anything in life. A sad state of affairs, but things are changing, and with “SAAND KI AANKH”, things should change. Woman, girls, sisters, and mothers who are repressed, should be able to fight for their rights, and have equal share of a man’s respect, be able to work and be educated. To be an equal is still a fight.

   Based on a true story, Taapsee Panuu & Bhumi Padnekar play sister-in-laws. They are Chandro & Prakashi Tomar, both of whom take up shooting in their late age, and are encouraged by their nephew to win Gold Medals on a state level. They are known as sharp shooters. But when the head of the family, played by Prakash Jha, gets the news, everything gets tossed back to the feudal way of thinking, and all hell brakes loose.

   They may be young to play grandma’s, but Tapsee & Bhumi’s get into the skin and mannerisms of these two ladies. The film is surprisingly better than I expected. The film gets 3 and half star recommendation. Courtesy Awesome TV & Being Filmy.
