‘Ted Lasso’ Gets Back on Track With Season 4’s Seventh Episode

Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso has found its footing again. After a quieter episode, the seventh installment, “Yes & Baby,” marks a return to what made the show work in the first place: focusing on character development and emotional storytelling, this time centering on the Lady Greyhounds.

The episode puts the women of AFC Richmond front and center, revealing the real struggles they face off the pitch. Lizzie is grappling with childcare after her ex-husband bails on pickup. Gemma is torn between training and a law internship. Boots’ car has broken down. Siobhan and Niamh get hit with a rent increase, while Shannon keeps driving for food delivery just to pay her bills.

Tanya Reynolds’ Alice Chilton gets a significant storyline after returning from suspension. Following advice to be more open-minded, she starts saying “yes” to everything her players request which quickly spirals into chaos.

That’s where Ted and Coach Beard step in, teaching Alice the improv principle of “Yes, and,” which encourages her to listen to her team while contributing something meaningful to their ideas. The lesson pays off when the team decides they shouldn’t just inherit the men’s “BELIEVE” sign. Alice adds “And Win” to it, creating a rallying cry all their own.

Brett Goldstein’s Roy Kent is finally confronting what everyone else already knows: he’s still in love with Keeley Jones. When his girlfriend Dr. Erin realizes this, she makes the tough call to end things. Roy admits he started the relationship partly to get over Keeley, but Erin tells him he deserves to be with someone he actually loves.

Meanwhile, Ted attempts his own romantic comeback. After Keeley helps him create a dating profile, he realizes online dating isn’t his style. Instead, he tracks down the stage manager he met earlier and asks her out only to learn she’s already seeing someone. Still, it’s progress.

Coach Beard, meanwhile, continues nursing his own heartbreak with a dramatic new look and plenty of emotional baggage.

“Yes & Baby” succeeds because it slows things down. Rather than leaning on flashy football sequences or major dramatic events, the episode focuses on everyday struggles: work, love, money, relationships. By centering the Lady Greyhounds’ experience, Season 4 finally gives itself a clearer identity while exploring what professional sports looks like for women.

The episode manages to balance these heavier themes with the humor and hope that Ted Lasso was built on, setting up several character arcs that should drive the remaining episodes forward.
