‘The Price of the Sun’ Doc at Visions du Réel 2026: Berber Solar Clash

A Look at the MovieDirected by Jérôme Le Maire, “The Price of the Sun” is about a Berber nomadic community in Morocco that is facing the building of one of the world’s largest renewable energy plants on their ancestral lands. The movie shows the quiet conflict between the nomads’ long-held traditions and the world’s push for green energy. It asks whether there is enough sun and wind for everyone or if the cost to native ways of life is too high.

The documentary will have its world premiere at the 57th Visions du Réel in Nyon, Switzerland, which will run from April 17 to 26, 2026, as part of the International Feature Film Competition. There are 164 films from 75 countries in this year’s lineup, 83 of which are world premieres. Le Maire’s work shows how renewable projects can have unexpected effects on nomadic lifestyles that are not very obvious.

The story is about nomads whose landscape changes, making them give up their traditions as they fight for control of resources. It makes us think about the moral issues that could come up if green energy projects destroy communities that are connected and share. The film shows that these communities are going to have to change in ways they didn’t expect by closely and carefully observing them.
