Anshuman Jha’s ‘Lord Curzon Ki Haveli’ Gets CBFC ‘A’ Certification with Cuts.

Anshuman Jha’s directorial debut, Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, has received an ‘A’ certification from the CBFC after a four-month review. The film, however, had to make three cuts, including muting a curse word, despite its adult rating, which frustrated Jha due to the CBFC’s inconsistent approach.

Censorship Issues and Bilingual Content

The film’s mix of Hindi and English (50/50) also became a point of contention. Jha criticized the CBFC for applying different standards to similar content in other films.

International Recognition

Lord Curzon Ki Haveli has earned global acclaim, including being the only Indian film at Razor Reel Flanders 2024 and winning Best Director at the UK Asian Film Festival 2024.

Innovative Cinematography and Award-Winning Cast

The film’s use of a single 35mm lens, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock, and standout performances from Arjun Mathur, Rasika Dugal, and others have been widely praised.

Jha Calls for Standardized Censorship

Jha expressed relief at receiving certification but called for a more transparent and consistent CBFC certification process.

Anticipated Release

Despite the censorship challenges, Lord Curzon Ki Haveli remains highly anticipated and is set for a significant release in India.

About the Film

Produced by Golden Ratio Films, Adya Films UK, and First Ray Films, Lord Curzon Ki Haveli blends gripping storytelling and visuals, contributing to the ongoing debate over creative freedom in Indian cinema.
