Mercedes Ron’s ‘Drawn Together’ Brings Darker Thrills to Prime Video

Spanish author Mercedes Ron is deepening her presence on Prime Video with ‘Drawn Together’, a romantic thriller adapted from her bestselling novel ‘Marfil’. The film debuted on the streaming platform September 9, featuring actress Ester Expósito as Marfil Cortés and actor Hugo Diego García as the mysterious bodyguard Sebastián Moore.

Directed by Óscar Pedraza and written by Sofía Cuenca and Ron, the story follows Marfil, daughter of a powerful Spanish businessman whose world is turned upside down after a kidnapping in New York. Though she eventually escapes, her terrified father takes no chances he brings in Sebastián, a skilled and enigmatic bodyguard, to watch over her. What starts as a professional arrangement soon becomes far more complicated as the two grow closer.

‘Drawn Together’ signals a shift in Ron’s storytelling approach. Pulled from the first book in her ‘Enfrentados’ duology, the narrative showcases a grittier, more adult side of her work than her earlier young adult novels.

Ron has been open about exploring darker themes as she matures as a writer, and she’s grateful that her longtime readers have grown with her. The author originally found success on Wattpad before moving into traditional publishing and eventually landing major streaming deals. Her ‘Culpables’ trilogy became a global phenomenon, and Prime Video has dubbed its expanding catalog of Ron adaptations the “House of Ron.”

Expósito, recognized for roles in ‘Elite’ and ‘Venus’, anchors the film as Marfil, while García delivers as the complex Sebastián. They’re joined by Pablo Molinero, Lluís Homar, Joaquín Ferreira, Zoe Bonafonte, and Eric Masip.

The film weaves together romance, mystery, action and suspense, with Marfil’s kidnapping serving as just the opening chapter of the danger that surrounds her. Sebastián’s own hidden past only deepens the tension between them.

Prime Video has already greenlit ‘Drawn Apart’, adapting the second book in the ‘Enfrentados’ series. Beyond that, Ron’s deal with Amazon MGM Studios includes adaptations from her ‘Dímelo’ series and ’30 Sunsets to Fall in Love’, with Ron signed on as executive producer for future projects.
