Pierre “P” Thomas, the co-founder and CEO of Atlanta-based record label Quality Control Music, was hospitalized Friday after suffering a heart attack, the label confirmed.
Thomas is currently receiving medical care, according to Quality Control, which asked the public to respect his and his family’s privacy during this time. The hospitalization has sparked an outpouring of concern from artists, fans and music industry insiders who have followed Thomas’ influential career in hip-hop.
Quality Control has not released details about Thomas’ current condition or provided a timeline for his recovery.
Thomas co-founded Quality Control with Kevin “Coach K” Lee in Atlanta in 2013, and the label quickly became one of the most important forces shaping modern rap music. The company signed and nurtured some of hip-hop’s biggest names, including Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty and City Girls.
Migos, in particular, became synonymous with the Quality Control brand and helped cement the label’s status as a major player in Atlanta’s rap scene. Over the years, Thomas and Lee expanded beyond traditional record label operations to include artist management, film and sports ventures. Billboard recognized both executives for their influence and leadership in the music business.
In 2023, South Korean entertainment giant HYBE America acquired Quality Control Music in a deal valued at approximately $300 million a testament to how much the company had grown under Thomas and Lee’s leadership.
For now, the music community is waiting for updates on Thomas’ health as he recovers. Quality Control has simply asked supporters to keep the executive and his family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
