Michelle Pfeiffer Shoots Down Retirement Rumors, Says She’s Not Done With Movies

Michelle Pfeiffer is pushing back hard against reports that she’s hanging up her movie career for good.

The acclaimed actress sat down with Jimmy Fallon on *The Tonight Show* on Aug. 20 to set the record straight. Her comments from earlier this month, she said, had been blown way out of proportion. “The most ridiculous thing,” is how she described the retirement speculation swirling around her.

The confusion started when Pfeiffer spoke at a Hollywood Reporter and Apple TV panel on Aug. 3. During that conversation, she said she’d never wanted to headline another film and would rather work in ensemble casts instead.

Those remarks quickly spiraled into headlines suggesting the legendary actress was ready to leave the big screen behind for good. But that’s not what she meant at all.

“Of course I want to star in another movie,” Pfeiffer clarified on Fallon’s show. She explained that she’d been specifically talking about her love of working with large casts rather than announcing some grand exit from Hollywood. She’d realized the potential for misunderstanding the moment the words left her mouth.

Pfeiffer made those original comments while discussing her recent television work on ‘The Madison’ and ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’.

The actress has found real creative fulfillment in sharing screen time with other performers rather than carrying entire projects on her own shoulders. Her TV roles have allowed her to sink her teeth into complex characters over multiple episodes, something she’s praised as a particular strength of television storytelling.

The collaborative nature of ensemble casts has proven particularly rewarding at this stage of her career, she said.

Pfeiffer’s pivot toward television has coincided with some serious career highlights. She leads ‘The Madison’, the Taylor Sheridan series connected to the ‘Yellowstone’ universe, and appears opposite Elle Fanning in Apple TV+’s ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’.

That latter role has already earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the 2026 awards season.

The success of these projects has clearly deepened her appreciation for what television can offer particularly the chance to develop characters across multiple episodes and collaborate with larger ensembles.

With more than 40 years in the business, Pfeiffer remains a Hollywood fixture. Her filmography includes classics like Scarface, Dangerous Liaisons, The Fabulous Baker Boys, and Batman Returns, along with more recent work in the Ant-Man franchise.

She hasn’t abandoned movies entirely she appeared in the 2025 comedy Oh. What. Fun. and reprised her Janet van Dyne role in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

For movie lovers worried about losing her to television, Pfeiffer’s latest comments offer reassurance. While she’s thoroughly enjoying her current run of TV work, she’s made clear she remains open to returning to film. The right project just has to come along.
